Dance/ Movement Therapy
“See the music, hear the dance”
Life is nothing but a dance of birth and death, a dance of change.
Dance/movement therapy, or DMT, is the psychotherapeutic use of movement to promote emotional, social, cognitive, and physical integration. 1 DMT can help people with physical health by increasing strength, improving flexibility, decreasing muscle tension, and boosting coordination. It can also offer important mental health benefits including stress reduction and even symptom relief from conditions such as anxiety and depression.
Movement is a language, our first language. Nonverbal and movement communication begins in utero and continues throughout the lifespan. Dance/movement therapists believe that nonverbal language is as important as verbal language and use both forms of communication in the therapeutic process.
Mind, body, and spirit are interconnected.
How aware are we of our body?
How aware are we of our mind & body coordination?
How aware are we of the subtle sensations in our body?
How aware are we every step we walk, every mouth we chew?
How aware are we of our conditioned body responses to the outside environment & situations?
How sensitive are we about ourselves?
In a dance therapy session, it may:
Dance has been scientifically proven to reduce levels of cortisol caused by chronic stress. It also causes the brain to release dopamine – a natural mood booster, and endorphins – a natural painkiller.
Dancing also releases serotonin, dopamine, and other happiness hormones? Not that you need any more of a reason to dance, but there is research to prove that dancing is good for the mind and body. Simply put, science says that dancing is good for you!
In PHH, we allow our clients to Express themselves through movement. Celebrate your inner self with this body mind coordination movements.
“May the dancer and the dance become one.”
