The word "YUG" means union or yoke. To yoke means to draw together, to bind together; or to unite. Its aim is to yoke or create a union of the body, mind, soul, and universal consciousness. This process of uniting the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects (5 Koshas) of ourselves is what allows yogis to experience deep states of freedom, peace and self-realization.

The Yoga Sutras is one of the most famous text on the fundamentals of yoga and was written by Patanjali around 200 BCE. In this foundational text, he defines yoga in sutra 1.2 as:

Yoga Chitta Vritti Nirodhah.

This translates as “Yoga is the cessation of the whirling fluctuations of the mind.”

This cessation of thoughts is the result of a dedicated and consistent practice of yoga. By calming our mental chatter, this contemplative practice connects to the source of our being where we can experience the unity of our own self, as well as the unity of everything else around us.

8 Limbs of Yoga:

Patanjali laid out the fundamentals of yoga philosophy and practice in his classic text, the Yoga Sutras. He describes eight limbs or steps to reach the goal of the practice. Each limb is a spiritual, mental, or physical practice that builds upon one another. The limbs of the eightfold path are:

  • Yama – The moral codes of conduct
  • Niyama – The physical observances and internal practices
  • Asana – The proper posture
  • Pranayama – The proper breathing exercises
  • Pratyahara – The withdrawal of senses from external distractions
  • Dharana – The mental concentration and focusing the mind
  • Dhyana – The meditation and focus on a single point
  • Samadhi – The cessation of all mental activity to attain a state of oneness

"Cale Vāte Calaṃ Cittam" –
As is the breath, so is the psyche.

Ashtanga yoga wakes up the internal fire. It ignites the dormant flame of vital life energy within all of us. The vinyasa system works with the synchronization of deep, rhythmic breathing and movement. By linking the postures it creates a continuous flow of energy that heats up the body, bringing oxygen to the blood, nourishing the glands and internal organs, cleansing and purifying the nervous system, releasing unwanted toxins through perspiration. As the heat goes up toxins are burned up and out of the system, creating a lighter and stronger body, and a clear mind. The heat is not only a physical experience, it is an internal spiritual fire that burns through the fog of illusion and ignorance.

When the breath wanders, the mind is unsteady, but when the breath is still, so is the mind still.

Ashtanga yoga is a focusing technique that joins the main life forces, beating in unison to an internal rhythm, your internal rhythm. With control of the state where there is no sense of time, where externally imposed barriers dissolve and there is a sense of oneness with the universe. As focus increases, there is an effortlessness, a lightness in the harmony of movement and breathing.

So using the Eight limbs of yoga we are transcending from our body consciousness to Supreme consciousness. So we use each limb to to penetrate in to our subtler bodies, starting from body to mind to Soul.

So we also conduct Yogic Breathing workshops, Meditations, Yog Nidra to let yourself experience a journey towards your own true Self.
